ICON MAGAZINE CATCHES BRENNEN LEIGH @ MUCKY DUCK

At 25, Brennen Leigh exudes passion in her music. She has shared the stage with some noted bluegrass heroes and has collaborated with some of the most recognized producers and songwriters in the country. She has clearly found comfort in those collaborations and her songwriting is raw, personal and untainted from the mass produced popular music that graces our commercial radio stations and that's okay. Brennen enjoys the stage and it was evident that she was there to bare her soul in her words and music and when she announced at McGonigel's Mucky Duck in Houston, Texas a few days prior to Hurricane Ike that she and fellow musicians Shotgun Party were just going to take turns on stage that night as they alternated every few songs while telling bittersweet stories about fun times in Austin.

I love Houston Press's Scott Feingold's review of Brennan Leigh. He is dead-on when describing the funny, charming and talented young woman, who is no doubt a treasure in Austin, Texas. Her influences are clear: Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, even Miss Bessie Smith. Her mandolin playing made us dance and smile and that's worth doing over and over again. Brennan Leigh is currently touring with Jesse Dayton this fall. She released her third full-length album in 2006 entitled Devils on My Trail and has already graced the stage with bluegrass pioneer Ralph Stanley and His Clinch Mountain Boys, Hot Club of Cowtown, Dale Watson and is often seen performing with her brother and manager, Seth Hulbert. Brennan has taken stage at Eddie Wilson's famous "Armadillo Headquarters" Threadgills restaurant/museum/cultural live venue which has hosted such performers as Bob Schneider, The Gourds, Tish Hinojosa and James McMurtry.
